Today my friends and I joined over 60,000 people in Atlanta and who knows how many more worldwide in a historic march for womens rights and civil liberty. This was a day for love, unity, and equality. I was raised to believe we are all equal, with our own unique strengths and weaknesses that make us who we are. Gender doesn't matter, sexual preference doesn't matter, religion, ethnicity, family background, none of it makes any one of us any less important than the next. I happen to be a straight white middle class man who lives in America, which makes that a very easy sentiment to say, but even more important that I back it up. There are too many men who fit the same demographic as I do that seem to believe they don't need to look out for the rights of others, that if it doesn't affect them it doesn't matter. Or even worse, that somehow they're better or more important than the rest of us. I believe the fact that I find myself in a privileged position with the luxury to choose whether or not I stand up for what I believe in is exactly why it's so important that I do. The mixture of people I saw today marching through Downtown Atlanta in solidarity was beautiful, it really was. So many people coming together to make their voices heard. It was a peaceful protest, with men women and children sharing messages of positivity and unity. I'm a photographer because I love sharing my story with the world. For today's blog, I'll just share theirs.
